Jon was hired as an example of Electrical Engineering at South Dakota State University for their high school "College Days"...not once but twice ...because students could actually see the practical use of physics and electronics in what Jon Michaels does. The speaker from RAND computers bored them.
Jon uses a thirty foot truck to carry his equipment and will usually bring in everything that the venue has time, voltage and room for.
Common Setup
SPEAKERS: Yamaha Club Series speakers....usuall one or two pair. These aren't aucioneer p.a. speakers on a stick. They are taller than you are and weigh hundreds of pounds. You can stand next to these and speak normally without thinking they are loud...but yet feel the sound on your skin. Jon likes to push air...not vibrate it. Most problems smaller dj's have is that they use small speakers (that fit in their car) that are not designed for "full sound" ("speakers on a stick" many feet off the floor) and when they are turned up..they distort. It is distortion that most people say is "too loud".

AMPS: Jon always uses professional rack mounted equipment (
not a table top "50's sock hop" setup). Backup is also important. A QSC 4,000 watt, thirty amp amplifer cooly and quietly make his Yamaha Club Series Speakers sing. Another QSC is mounted as backup or can run another pair of his Yamaha Club Speakers. One pair of speakers can drive most high school gymnasiums.
CD-PLAYERS: You won't see professional DENON players at Best Buy. These rack mounted units cost between $700 and $1,000. And Jon uses two of them (four drawers).
MIXER: Again DENON...it can activate the players just by moving the "cross-fader".
LIGHTING: Jon was voted by disc jockeys from across the nation in Las Vegas to receive the "Best Sound & Lighting Technology Award". Most all of his equipment is of the highest professionalism with many units costing over $2,000 a piece. Dozens of units of "intelligent lighting" from MARTIN and bright theatrical lights from HI-END are used everytime. Sometimes he even brings in part of his lighted dance floor for free. (depending on voltage and space). All light control boards and power packs by NSI.
VIDEO: Jon was a pioneer of "Video DJ" and was given the "DJ of the Month" article and cover of DJ TIMES INTERNATIONAL magazine. Cameras, Switchers and Monitors are Sony with projectors from Boxlite. (again these are not the kind you see at local stores). Jon presents your video montage presentations at the dance for free and even records the dance on DVD. Being Jon is always multi-media anyway..all karaoke is included.
